Inner Working Psychology is located in Gisborne (Victoria). Roslyn Martin works as a psychologist with children ages 13+ and adults.

 

The name 'Inner Working’ comes from my belief that we all know within ourselves what feels right or wrong for us.  Our values, desires, fears are all held at a deep level within us and when we tap into this inner knowing, we can then change the outer working in our life. It truly can be life changing. 

Inner Working works with children aged 13+ and adults, both in person and via Skype. Below is a list of issues (but not limted to) I can address with you, and an explanation of how I work and the approach I take in our sessions together. Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT®)

BWRT®’ stands for ‘BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®’, a modern model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It uses a totally logical, practical and down-to-earth working method in which it’s not necessary for you to talk about anything you would rather not discuss – the practitioner only needs to know how you feel and how you would prefer to feel instead. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a very user friendly, mindfulness based therapy.

ACT provides you with some wonderful psychological tools that help you to manage painful thoughts and feelings more effectively.

 

Rather than being consumed by overwhelming, difficult thoughts or emotions or spending time and energy avoiding, distracting or fearing them, we get to a point of accepting what is out of our control, reducing the impact on us.

Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is an altered state of heightened awareness and perception, to create a state of focus and concentration. Is it a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation, where you are still aware of everything at all times.

 

You are in control and cannot be made to do anything against your will. You don’t reveal private or secret information that you wish to keep secret. Hypnosis is not sleep, it’s like a guided meditation with carefully worded suggestions to create new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings.  

We discuss beforehand what you are wishing to address.  

 

Hypnosis is never offered in an initial session. No-one can be hypnotized against their will and when hypnotized, a person can still reject any suggestion. It’s a process of co-operation, working together on what you’re wanting to achieve.

I’m very much a short-term, solution focussed practitioner. I work in partnership with you, where you choose what you would like to change in your life and I help develop the roadmap to get you there. Often we know what we don’t want in life (i.e., I don’t want to feel anxious or depressed), but we struggle to say what we really want, how we would rather feel and be in life. I’ll help you with that part too. 

So what to expect from sessions with me?

I’ve listed the main techniques that I like to use, but it’s like listing different car models.  There’s plenty of cars on the road and I’ve found the easiest, most effective cars that drive beautifully.

 

But what kind of driver am I?

I like to share skills and techniques that will give you a different perspective and ability to cope more effectively.  The space to debrief, explore and release unhelpful beliefs, habits, fears and behaviours that may be holding you back from living a meaningful and fulfilling life.  You can say anything in a session and I won’t judge you. You can swear, you can cry, you can laugh.  Usually all in the same session, it’s your space. 

I don’t see myself as the expert. You’re still driving your car and I’m giving you some direction, but ultimately, you’re the one deciding on where you wish to head in life, even if you’re not sure to start with. I mention to every client that we carry an invisible took kit with us through life, containing all of the coping tools that we’ve previously learnt and used in life to deal with difficult situations. Often, sessions are about adding some more tools to the kit.
